I saw Brideshead Revisited at the Arc Light yesterday afternoon, but I should have seen Batman instead.

Drag-o-rama.

But it was refreshingly homo-erotic for a PG-13 movie that is in wide release. Proper English boys in seersucker suits drunkenly kissing...oh la la. That and lots of close-ups of Matthew Goode's pretty face. And I'm totally cribbing all of those fantastic wine descriptors ("it's like a pearl necklace around a young woman's delicate neck").

Maybe I'll do Batman today. I could hear rumbling from it next door and it sounded much more exciting then the moody looks and sweeping landscapes of Brideshead.

Perhaps it will be an all matinee weekend.

There is something delicious about seeing a movie by yourself in the middle of the day. Especially on a work day. Well, if I had a job. Then it would be even more especially delicious? Or it feels so because I don't. Whatever.

Hooray for escapism in all its forms.

Like the latest book I'm dying over: Richard Price, Ladies' Man. It's slaying me. Anyone who has written about twenty/thrity-somethings in the singles scene in the city owes Price a piece of their book deal. Good stuff. (And I'm still slowly making my way through Hughes' fantastic history of art: American Visions.)

Wait, wait.

All that movie going and reading and eating (oh my, the duck at Canele was so good last night) and drinking (at the Hungry Cat Danielle made-up an incredible cocktail called Lolita's Haze--has plums in it) and shopping and gardening and gossiping and gym going and what else, what else. Long walks (what's that big thing covering up part of Silverlake Reservoir?), making art, flying to New York, wandering about museums... What else is it that I do.
What if escapism is just what you always do?
